What are the Symptoms of Periodontal Disease?
- Gums that are red, swollen, tender or bleed easily
- Gums that have pulled away from teeth
- Persistent bad breath or bad taste
- Changes in tooth position, looseness, separation or mismatch
Factors increasing gum disease include tobacco use, poor oral hygiene, family history, especially crooked teeth, pregnancy, diabetes and certain medications. Not to worry – when detected in earlier stages, gum disease can be treated and even reversed.
What is the Cause of Periodontal Disease?
Periodontitis is caused by microorganisms that adhere to and grow on the tooth’s surfaces, along with an overly aggressive immune response against these microorganisms. A diagnosis of periodontitis is established by inspecting the soft gum tissues around the teeth (i.e., a clinical examination) and by evaluating the patient’s x-rays films (i.e. a radiographic examination), to determine the amount of bone loss around the teeth.
The image below explains how severe Peridontal Disease can look. Unfortunately, this before patient image is NOT uncommon. Patients who go untreated with a dental cleaning for a long period of time can develop this. Many patients can’t see the inside of their teeth, but when they finally see the magnitude of delayed treatment, they are relieved to finally remove this bacteria and tartar from their mouth. In fact, many patients say that not only does their mouth look good, their breath is significantly improved too.
Patient with bacteria, or tartar build up with periodontal disease, a before and after celebration for the patient. Wow… now that’s what we call magnificent treatment!

If you believe you have periodontal disease or have been diagnosed with periodontal disease and require a deep cleaning, we can help you. Your first appointment will be to evaluate the magnitude of the periodontal disease and then go from there. The great news is that in this first appointment we will be able to know exactly what you need and how much time to reserve to get you started on this fantastic journey of eliminating the bacteria and the regimen of keeping you fresh and clean.
I am so embarrassed and I don’t want to be made to feel bad for not coming in for years?
Yes, this we understand and respect completely! In fact, we don’t believe in ever making a patient feel bad. Unfortunately most patients just don’t know, were never told or simply didn’t realize the magnitude of untreated dental care. Our promise to you is that what we say will always be from the heart and designed to elevate your mind with education and treatment that combats the problems that have developed.

Periodontal Disease Patient Review
“I also love this office. The two brothers are the best dentist that I’ve ever been to and I’ve had dentist all over in Israel and the US. I had some bad work done at another dentist so I came to them to see if they can fix it and they did it with no problem and no pain. We drive from the far West Valley just to see them. I highly recommend them to all my friends and family. In fact, my wife is in. They make you feel at ease when you need to come to the dentist.”
